I have always felt uncomfortable in front of the camera . I can’t even smile when someone takes a photo of me because I felt that smiling in front of the camera is so unnatural. When I was given the assignment/role, I suggested that BAFI get a person who had more experience because I had zero acting experience. I said that I was happy to help write the content and provide technical guidance behind the scene! After deliberations, I reluctantly gave in. I guess I am just a camera-shy academic and conservation scientist but I certainly had no qualms in accepting the ‘role’ of being the ecologist because that is what I am. I suppose it is the scripted conversations that I am not used to. To condition myself for the shoot, I watched a number of episodes of seasons 1 & 2 of Mind S-Cool. Instead of acclimatizing, watching Pecier and Mikee, my anxieties grew because they were very good! How will I be able to match the level of skills in ‘acting’ with matching facial expressions, movements, voice projection and intonation? I am very grateful to our Director, Mitzi and the dynamic duo (Pecier and Mikee) for putting me at ease, guiding me through this new journey and putting up with my many mistakes and those many, many takes. I thank them as well as the production crew for being patient with me! I have now gained a fresh perspective (and great respect!) on communicating science or science telling using this medium: Mind S-Cool! - Very different from what I am used to: having face-to-face interactions and conversations with my students!

He has led program development and directed various programmes/projects/activities in the Philippines designed to implement and promote biodiversity conservation, improved protected areas management, climate change adaptation/mitigation programme of work. Kuya Aldrin is the founder and president of the Center for Conservation Innovations Inc, a consortium member of the Sustainable Interventions for Biodiversity, Oceans, and Landscapes (SIBOL) project, which is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID); Mind S-Cool TV Season 3 is made possible by the support of our Partners from USAID. Kuya Aldrin serves as the guide and keeper of the different and fantastical worlds inside Mind S-Cool.
